A fire sprinkler system is a network of piping charged with water either from domestic water tanks. Fire sprinkler are connected to the pipe work in the areas to be protected. Fire sprinklers are fitted to the system of supple pipes and each is an independent unit and operates only if the fire causes it to do so. Each fire sprinkler is fitted with a small thermal element (bulb) activated by heat from a fire The temperature required depends on the type of sprinkler head installed but is usually between 68 -74 degrees Celsius,
First things first, fire sprinklers are NOT triggered by smoke and do NOT all go off together, Fire sprinklers are actually heat activated and only the sprinkler head above the fire will activate. In majority of the cases, fires are extinguished by the activate of just one sprinkler head. If the fire is severe and spreads quickly then the next closest sprinkler head will activate when the required temperature is reached.
